Variability was a product design exhibition conceived by Henny van Nistelrooy and Liliana Ovalle. It took place in an empty office in South Kensington that came complete with blue carpets, built-in cupboards and rooms separated by glass walls.

In collaboration with Jochem Faudet, we decided that instead of trying to disguise the office space, it would be better to integrate the products into it, using its features as exhibition devices. The blue carpet is made of squares that were used as a grid. By removing some carpet boards and replacing it with a white wooden surface, we indicated the spots for each product. Those that needed plinths had one built using the same module, and the walls painted in a matching blue keeping the white for the tops. Some products were placed in separate rooms and inside cupboards, including our very own Meantime clock in the filing cabinets.

The invitation and leaflet were printed with digital duplicators, allowing us to run a number of different artworks with various type arrangements for the title. In the exhibition space an animation acted as entry piece, replicating the different title arrangements.
