Gill Sans Rounded was designed for a game we organised at Arnold Circus in the Summer of 2007. The game was designed for kids in the area, an adaptation of Snake and Ladders to be played outdoors. Following this event we started working on a prototype version and for that we needed a typeface to be cut in plastic, marking the numbered cases. We chose Gill Sans Ultra Bold for its playfulness but also a small homage to the British heritage of the site where the game was first played. But Gill Sans had very sharp edges when cut into plastic, so we needed a rounded version to make it safe for kids. The resulting numbers looked interesting enough for us to transform the whole typeface, also in Bold version, completing Gills Sans Rounded.
