Portraits: Patients and Psychiatrists is a collection of 16 etchings by Gemma Anderson, result of a 1 year residency program at Bethlem Royal Hospital. The artist developed a close relationship with the portrayed using interviews and researching into objects linked to their lives which were later incorporated into the portraits.

The images are presented with no distinction between doctors and patients, stressing the artist's investigation on the line between sanity and mental condition. The book also features five different essays covering the medical, historical and artistic background of Anderson's project. We used these essays to punctuate the rhythm of the book, alternating them with the artworks. The essays are printed on a slightly narrower format, creating a parallel narrative that develops side-by-side with the flow of images.

Portraits: Patients and Psychiatrists was published by the Wellcome Trust.
